Pro Tennis12-17 years
Pro Tennis is an intensive three-week programme designed for tennis players aged 12-17 who play tennis regularly and are looking to elevate their game under the guidance of experienced Bede’s coaches. Students will benefit from technical coaching and specific tennis-related strength and conditioning training, as well as sharpening psychological aspects of their game, such as developing resilience and a tactical mindset. This course takes place at Dicker centre, home of Bede's Senior School, which is located in the village of Upper Dicker in the heart of the Sussex countryside, just north of the seaside town of Eastbourne which attracts both domestic and international tourists. The school is based on a former country estate and has a unique, homely feel, ideal for young teenagers. Pro Tennis will cultivate the next generation of champions.
The Programme
English Skills lessons are designed to improve students’ general language skills, extend their vocabulary and better their understanding of grammar, to improve accuracy and confidence when producing spoken and written English.

During Enrichment sessions, students will further enrich their language skills by deepening their cultural understanding of the places they visit during excursions, using real-world materials such as leaflets, word searches, adverts and articles to develop their productive and receptive English skills pre and post excursions.

Students will master essential Tennis techniques, from powerful serves to strategic volleys, while developing advanced match strategies tailored to their unique playing styles. The course also emphasises mental resilience and fitness conditioning, ensuring players not only enhance their skills but also cultivate a winning mindset.
Strength & Conditioning Students will build explosive power, agility and endurance through tailored workouts designed to enhance on-court performance and reduce injury risk.
Technical training Students will hone essential skills such as serving, volleying, and footwork through targeted drills and expert feedback to elevate players' overall game performance.
Tactical Training Players will be equipped with strategic insights and decision-making skills, enabling them to outsmart opponents and adapt their game plans during matches.
Match play Students will engage in competitive matches, focusing on implementing tactics and building confidence under pressure in a supportive environment.
Mental Resilience Students will discover strategies to enhance focus, manage pressure, and bounce back from setbacks, fostering a strong, competitive mindset.
Delivered by the Bede’s Director of Tennis and LTA performance coaches from Bede’s School, players will hone technique whilst training like professionals.
Francesca Byrne played for Great Britain U18’s and competed internationally, nationally and represented Sussex at every age group. She was formerly tennis coach to all levels at the Bath International Performance Centre between 2009 and 2013. Currently, she is the Director of Tennis at Bede’s and Tennis Eastbourne, as well as an LTA performance coach.
Recently, under Francesca’s leadership, Bede’s pupils have won the Tennis Sussex LTA Awards held at the Amex Stadium. The year-round Bede’s Tennis Academy run at Bede’s Senior School in Dicker provides top coaching for development players and Bede’s state-of-the-art facilities help students reach their full potential.
On Fridays, students will take part in in-house tennis competitions with external players to showcase their skills, build camaraderie and gain valuable match experience against local highly ranked tennis players.
A full programme of organised and supervised social events is offered every evening to encourage students to make new friends and develop their social skills. By actively encouraging the mixing of nationalities, we are helping to create a harmonious international community in which students can live, study in a safe and comfortable environment and enjoy themselves.

Excursions are a mandatory part of the programme. We offer students the opportunity to visit places of cultural and historical interest, as well as the chance for sightseeing, shopping and amusement. There is one mid-week excursion that is half-day and two full-day excursions at the weekend.
Wednesdays
Wednesday trips are a half-day afternoon/evening visit and may involve visiting a local place of interest in a nearby town or an off-site activity, such as Adventure Golf, Beach Volleyball, Castle, Country Park, Indoor Rock Climbing, Museum, Pier, Skating, Street Markets.
Saturdays
Saturday excursions are a full day trip and include a cultural, touristic or recreational visit to London or another place of interest such as British Museum, Buckingham Palace, London Dungeon, London Eye, London Zoo, Madame Tussauds, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Thorpe Park, Tower of London, Westminster Abbey.
Sundays
Sunday excursions are often more relaxing trips to a local seaside town, such as Brighton, Chichester, Eastbourne, Hastings or Worthing, where students can stroll along the beach, have lunch in the park or do some shopping. Sometimes students will partake in off-site activities.
Dates & Fees
The programme runs for 3 weeks in total, from 05 July to 25 July 2026 in Dicker. Students arrive on Sunday 05 July 2026 and depart on Saturday 25 July 2026, unless additional weeks of English Plus are booked.
The minimum stay is two weeks. To maximize the benefit of your experience, you should consider a 3 or 4 week course and supplement with English Plus.
The fully-inclusive course fee is £1,995 per week for a residential course. This includes a return transfer from selected airports (see Terms & Conditions) and travel insurance. Day Course is also available for £1,095 per week.
The Course
Age range 12 to 17 yrs. Maximum 28 students per week on the Pro Tennis course and maximum 220 students per week in Dicker from different countries. Limits for each nationality to ensure a good mix.
There is 14 hours of English Lessons in the mornings and 12 hours of Tennis training in the afternoons.There is a full programme of evening Social Events and mid-week and weekend Excursions tailored to students' age and interests. All recreational activities organised by Bede's are mandatory are included in the course fee.
There are 14 hours of English per week including English Skills and Enrichment. Maximum 14 students per class. Weekly progress checks to monitor students' performance.
5 levels are available from A2 (Pre-Intermediate) to C2 (Proficiency). Complete Beginners and Beginners are not accepted. Placement test on Monday with a multiple choice, writing and speaking components.
This course is open to students who have been playing Tennis for some time and represent from Intermediate to Advanced levels.
Pro Tennis is available as a day course and runs from 8.30 to 17.00 Monday to Friday (18.00 on Wednesday) and includes and half-day excursion on Wednesdays. Students may add evening activities and the Saturday and Sunday excursions if they wish (supplements payable).
The centre

Bede’s staff provide excellent care for students 24 hours a day and live in the same residential areas as the students. Dedicated House Parents look after the students in each boarding house. Excellent staff:student ratios (typically 1:5). Individual attention provided. There is a surgery led by a qualified nurse a couple of times a week and students have access to a doctor if required.

For residential students, all meals are included in the weekly package price and students can expect a healthy and wholesome breakfast, lunch and dinner every day, served in the Dining Hall. A morning and evening snack is also offered (fruit, cake, mini sandwich, juice, milk). Day students enjoy a morning snack and lunch on campus. Meals are a mix of English and international dishes and vegetarian option is always available. Special dietary requirements are accommodated.

Wi-fi is available in most communal and accommodation areas. Students can make and receive telephone calls. The Village Shop is available at designated times for refreshments and snacks. Laundry is done for students at least once a week. 24 hour emergency contact service for Parents.

Transfers from/to Heathrow, Gatwick and London City Airports and St Pancras International Train Station are included in the fees between 09.00 and 18.00 (10.00-17.00 for St Pancras). Students are met by Bede's Staff and Bede's Airport Coordinators provide extra care.
