The Programme

English Skills

English Skills lessons are designed to improve students’ general language skills, extend their vocabulary and better their understanding of grammar, to improve accuracy and confidence when producing spoken and written English.

Aims

  1. Improve students' receptive (reading and listening) and productive (speaking and writing) English skills.

  2. Extend students' knowledge and range of vocabulary.

  3. Deepen students' understanding of grammatical concepts in English.

  4. Build students' confidence to use the English they know in speaking situations.

  5. Improve students' pronunciation.

  6. Train students to be effective learners.

Enrichment

During Enrichment sessions, students will further enrich their language skills by deepening their cultural understanding of the places they visit during excursions, using real-world materials such as leaflets, word searches, adverts and articles to develop their productive and receptive English skills pre and post excursions.

Aims

  1. Prepare students for the cultural visits during excursions.

  2. Enhance students' knowledge of cultural aspects of the UK.

  3. Familiarise students with authentic learning materials (leaflets, magazines, adverts, films, TV).

  4. Increase the sense of learning for communication.

  5. Develop students' self-learning skills.

  6. Develop students productive (speaking, writing) and receptive (listening, reading) skills in English.

Performing as a group

This session aims to work with specialist music staff on developing your musical confidence. Our group improvisation class offers a thrilling opportunity to explore a variety of musical styles, from jazz and funk to contemporary and world music. Students will learn to listen deeply, communicate musically with their peers, and build confidence in spontaneous performance. This class is designed to be a fun and supportive environment where students can freely experiment, take risks, and discover new dimensions of their musicality alongside other students.

Performance Workshop

In the performance workshop, we want to build students' confidence and stage presence. This intensive workshop goes beyond the notes, focusing on the art of delivery and connection with the audience. Students will work on everything from stagecraft and microphone technique to managing performance anxiety and developing a compelling stage persona. Through practical sessions, students will have the opportunity to showcase their talent in various settings, receiving personalised feedback from experienced instructors. This session will refine students' skills, allowing them to build on their musical ability.

Final Performance

The culmination of Bede's summer school experience is a chance to shine. This final performance is where students will bring together everything they have learned – from technical skills to stage presence and collaborative musicality – to share their unique talent with an enthusiastic audience of peers and faculty. It is a supportive and exciting performance session, where students can celebrate their progress, showcase their artistic growth, and create lasting memories with new friends.

Evenings

A full programme of organised and supervised social events is offered every evening to encourage students to make new friends and develop their social skills. By actively encouraging the mixing of nationalities, we are helping to create a harmonious international community in which students can live, study in a safe and comfortable environment and enjoy themselves.

Aims

  1. Promote students' relaxation and enjoyment.
