Candidate Profile

We are looking for Logistics Managers who are hard-working, reliable, committed, organised and flexible and for those who have the ability to work efficiently and professionally in an intense, busy and fast-paced environment.

Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer-service skills are essential, as is the ability to work calmly and effectively whilst under pressure. Good IT skills and the ability to work with high levels of accuracy, even when busy or tired, are basic requirements of the post.

Proven managerial skills are essential, as is the ability to lead large groups staff positively, consistently, fairly and confidently, taking into account any individual needs as may be necessary.

We aim to give students an educational, culturally-enriching and memorable summer experience in a safe and supervised setting and we are looking to employ professional staff who will accept this responsibility, and have the necessary wide-ranging skills, experience and commitment to help us achieve this goal.

Qualifications

  • University degree in any discipline is preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year experience of managing staff.
  • Must have experience of working in an office environment.
  • Experience of working in a language/summer school/educational/residential context would be beneficial.
  • Experience dealing with international students is essential.
  • The ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced, highly changeable, highly pressured and often challenging environment is essential.
  • A strong awareness of Health & Safety (specifically as it relates to residential accommodation) is essential.
  • Strong and demonstrable organisation skills.
  • Ability to solve major issues and problems with/between staff and students is required.
  • Must be a proficient user of MS Outlook and other MS Office applications.
  • Must have basic office & admin skills (telephone, typing, data entry)
  • Good oral and written communication skills and excellent telephone manner.
  • Knowledge of at least one foreign language is preferred.

Compensation

£700 per week

Statutory holiday pay (currently 5.6 weeks per year) is paid pro-rata with each salary payment on top of the stated weekly salary. 

Accommodation is provided. Meals are provided by the Summer School when on duty.

Working Hours

The Logistics Manager is expected to offer full commitment to the job for the duration of the course.

Working hours will be variable and shifts will often be long (typically 9 hours or more).

Shifts will include early mornings, late nights and weekends.

Logistic Managers are entitled to one full day off per week (day variable).

Working Day

The Logistics Manager has the responsibility for ensuring transportation for the weekend student arrival and departures is completed effectively without any disruption to the students.

You will also have the responsibility to ensure hire cars used by Bede’s are kept in the condition they are initially received, whilst ensuring all driving logs are completed, daily vehicle checks are carried out and any tolls accrued by a car are paid immediately.

The Logistics Manager also has the responsibility to complete the staff rotas taking into consideration any requests by staff for special occasions.

 You will be responsible for upholding the reputation and good name of Bede’s and will be expected to put the needs of the school and its students first at all times.

Working very closely with the management team, other centres and Operations Executive to see where transport jobs can be combined for efficiency.

The working day is extremely varied and no two days are the same.  Weekends are extremely busy and hectic with the expected disruptions from various airlines.  There will be issues and problems to resolve, constant interruptions from staff, students and visitors, paperwork to complete, phone calls to take and meetings to attend. In spite of this busy environment and the hectic nature of the job, the Logistics Coordinator is expected to ensure high standards are maintained, deal promptly with any incidents or issues and to anticipate any potential problems.

The day will be long, tiring and often quite challenging due to physical and mental pressures of the job, but it will also be extremely varied, spontaneous and fast-moving and you will feel a real sense of achievement, camaraderie and teamwork at the end of course
