Candidate Profile

We are looking for Activity Managers who have extensive knowledge of sports and activities, a good understanding of health and safety and its implications for sports instruction and preferably some experience of sports management in a professional context, ideally with children.

We are looking for applicants who are extremely organised, efficient and flexible and who are able to work in a busy, fast-paced and often challenging summer school environment. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential, as is the ability to work calmly, effectively and accurately even whilst under pressure and when working to tight deadlines.

The ability to build a friendly but professional rapport with staff members and lead them in a dynamic and efficient manner, set standards and norms of good practice and deal with any problems swiftly, fairly and appropriately, are all basic requirements of this post.

We are looking for Activity Managers who are hard-working, reliable and professional and for those who are willing to go the extra mile to help their colleagues and ensure the smooth running of the Activities Programme at all times.

We aim to give students an educational, culturally-enriching and memorable summer experience in a safe and supervised setting and we are looking to employ professional staff who will accept this responsibility, and have the necessary wide-ranging skills, experience and commitment to help us achieve this goal.

Qualifications

  • Applications from candidates with any of the following qualifications are particularly welcomed:
  • University Degree, preferably in Sports Science or a related discipline
  • Coaching qualifications (Level 1 or 2), particularly in Basketball, Cricket, Football, Hockey, Rugby, Squash or Tennis
  • QTS in Sports or PE
  • NPLQ Life Guarding certificate
  • HSE-approved First Aid certificate

Experience

  • Applicants will need to have some experience of coaching and sports/team management, as well as a minimum of 1 year professional experience of working with children.
  • Previous Summer School experience and/or experience of working with international students would be an advantage.

Compensation

From £835 per week.

Statutory holiday pay (currently 5.6 weeks per year) is paid pro-rata with each salary payment on top of the stated weekly salary.

Accommodation is provided. Meals are provided by the Summer School when on duty.

Working Hours

Working hours will be variable and shifts will often be long (typically 12 hours or more).

Shifts will include early mornings, late nights and weekends.

Activity Managers are entitled to one full day off per week (day variable).

Working Day

The Activity Manager assumes overall responsibility for the smooth running of the Activities Programme which includes afternoon sports, activities and clubs, evening entertainment, Sports Academy and excursions. To ensure the delivery of a high quality social programme and ultimately the success of the course, the post requires a great deal of forward planning and preparation.

In the mornings, in addition to completing the necessary planning and paperwork, you will be overseeing the work of the Activity and House Leaders to ensure that all sports and activity sessions are being prepared thoroughly and to acceptably high standards.

In the afternoons and evenings, the Activity Manger ensures that everything relating to the activities programme is running smoothly and deals with any last-minute changes that may be necessary, as well as any problems, unexpected delays or student absences.

Safety is a huge consideration for the Activity Manager and a large part of the preparation process will be dedicated to ensuring that every sports session, activity or trip has been risk-assessed and complies with all health & safety requirements.
