Nestled at the edge of the South Downs and encircled by woodland. I introduce to you the only university campus in England that is surrounded by National Park, University of Sussex, Brighton. Providing an intensive programme for up to 80 students per week aged between 15-20 years of age. A staff ratio of 1:5 students, maximum class size of 14 and lockable single en-suite bedrooms provides a great base for young adults on our English for the Future programme.

At Brighton we provide students with 25 hours of English tuition per week, which is made up of:

English Skills (10 hrs per week)

These lessons are based on Bede’s syllabus and are designed to improve students’ general language abilities, extend their vocabulary and pronunciation and enhance their understanding of grammar to improve their accuracy when producing spoken and written language.

Communication Skills (5 hrs per week)

It is important for young learners to develop their oral and written communication skills. Using many scenarios such as debating, writing reports and presentations we look to tap into those skills required for professional development.

Professional Skills (10 hrs per week)

Using CLIL (Content and Language Integrated Learning) methodology, these lessons are designed to give students the understanding of particular professions they may pursue later on in life. The choices include Psychology, Law and Health & Nutrition, amongst others.

A placement test on arrival will place students into their English class. Each class will consist of students of similar age and English ability.

What is new for 2017 at Brighton?

  • We now open our most intensive course to 15 year-olds with a minimum English level of B1.
  • Students can now prepare and take the Cambridge CAE exam whilst at Bede’s on a 3-week course. Additional cost applies.

Our programme, activities and excursions are all designed for the given age range, including time every day for students to use the Wi-Fi and contact home. A great centre for those who are looking for independence, tailored programmes and a university-feel experience.

All students who are under the age of 18 years of age will be separate from those who are older.
