Based on a hilltop overlooking the seaside town of Brighton and related to Hogwarts (as seen in the Harry Potter movies), I introduce to you our Lancing centre. Giving a real impression of importance studying at a centre with buildings reminiscent of Oxford and Cambridge universities. Lancing accommodates up to 230 students per week aged between 13-18 years of age. A staff ratio of 1:5 students and maximum class size of 14, provides a great base for aspiring teenagers on our English Plus programme.

At Lancing we provide students with 22.5 hours of English tuition per week, which is made up of;

English Skills (12.5 hrs per week)

These lessons are based on Bede’s syllabus and are designed to improve students’ general language abilities, extend their vocabulary and pronunciation and enhance their understanding of grammar to improve their accuracy when producing spoken and written language.

Enrichment (5 hrs per week)

Using real life materials such as adverts, leaflets and television programmes, students will develop their receptive and productive English skills. Deepening their cultural knowledge of the UK, while enhancing their Linguistic knowledge of the English language has proven a beneficial lesson for all those learning English.

Research project (5 hrs per week)

Students will work together in groups to complete daily tasks based on a weekly theme or topic. Each group will collectively present their findings through art, drama, presentation or however they wish, competing for the winner’s prize. This lesson works on students’ interpersonal, creative and English skills.

A placement test on arrival will place students into their English class. Each class will consist of students of similar age and English ability.

What is new for 2017 at Lancing?

  • Students can now increase their English tuition hours per-week to 28.5 hours. This can be achieved by selecting up to two Academic Academies which will take place instead of Sports & Activities.
  • Ceramics/Pottery, Commercial Pop Dance, Guitar, Photography, Sailing and Scuba Diving Academies available at an additional cost.

Our programme, activities and excursions are all designed for the given age range, including time every day for students to use the Wi-Fi and contact home. A great centre for those who are looking for a spectacular centre, extra English tuition and mixing with students a little older than those at Dicker.

Any questions you have with regards to Lancing and the English Plus programme please contact us and we will be happy to help you. summer.school@bedes.org
